Archetypal Dream was quite an undertaking. It started with David when he was going up against the Philistines in 2 Samuel 5. Toward the end of the chapter in verses 22-25, the Lord gives him instruction as to how. This passage has been embedded in my brain since I was little. It always mystified me and I still marvel about it today. That's where the concept of the song came to be. I've always seen this event as an archetype of what's to come. From there, I utilize various scriptures which have to do predominately with "what's to come", in regard to prophecy. Once you read through all the passages, it unfolds itself. The fact that the reapers will overtake the sowers. The image of the threshing floor and the winepress, all evocative of the last portrait. Here's the rest: Psalm18, Joel 3, Isaiah 2, Amos 9 Notice how the plow becomes a sword in one passage, and then in another the sword becomes a plowshare once again, indicating a future event of Christ bringing perfect order in our physical realm. I love these pictures of what will be, and greatly anticipate them.
Then there's the correlation to Abraham. And the tree (weeping). That comes from Genesis 18. I love the imagery of those events, where Abraham was visited by the 3, next to the Terebinth trees. I also see this event to tie right in with the idea of the song. As for the tree, the particular one in 2 Samuel has been the topic of debate among historians, as far as I've read, and some say that they were possibly similar to Terebinth trees mentioned in Genesis. I simply regard them as the trees where God arrived to meet with two of his guys in ancient times and combine them for the prose of the song.
Exodus 15 references the great songs of Moses and Miriam, with extra emphasis on Deuteronomy 32: 11-13 particularly respond to the Psalm 18 passage. I also include reference to Deborah and her song from Judges 5. That about sums up the roots of this song.
