about

I scribbled these words down in one of my journals about 12 years ago, when my wife and I were in the midst of working a graveyard shift together for the same company. The work was tedious and strenuous, and I hated every minute of it. But I knew that we were there for a reason, and I've never been one to quit anything on a whim weakness. So I stuck it out, only to find that season in our lives was specifically designed for me to grow, and grow up in many ways. When I had written it, I imagined it was speaking of someone else, only to find out that it was about me.
So many christians live their whole lives in anguish, obscurity, and uselessness, never realizing the importance and responsibility we have to simply pray. Prayer is the forgotten understatement of the church. Many will either trivialize it, or exploit it. Very few will just do it. God just wants us to be in communion with him.
I found that old journal entry about 4 months ago, and as I began to read through it, the melody came floating into my brain.

lyrics

You've got everything at your fingertips,
You've got a chip on your shoulder
Too much time on your hands,
And no time, no time, on your knees, on your knees

Your eye is on the ball, and your feet in the sand,
But this ball keeps spinning around, and you just can't stand
So get down, close to the ground,
Get on your knees, on your knees

Sacrificial love is by far the greatest gift among men. ... more
